Mahantha Thakur loses in Sarlahi
Mahantha Thakur, chief of Terai-Madhes Loktantrik Party (TMLP), has lost election from Sarlahi-6 constituency.
Thakur, who had walked out of Nepali Congress (NC) to float a regional party, lost to a candidate from Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF).
Incidentally, TMLP together with MJF and Nepal Sadbhavana Party (NSP) led by Rajendra Mahato, had launched a joint agitation earlier this year. But they failed to forge electoral alliance.
Shiva Pujan Yadav of MJF garnered 15,688 votes against Thakur's 15,416 to win the seat in the Constituent Assembly (CA).
Amaresh Singh of Nepali Congress (NC) stood third in the race.
In the April 10 election results, the MJF has fared much ahead of TMLP and NSP. The MJF has already bagged 27 seats and is leading in a couple of more seats. The TMLP has won in nine seats while NSP has bagged four constituencies. Chief of MJF Upendra Yadav won from two constituencies while Rajendra Mahato won from one constituency. nepalnews.com sd Apr 20 08
