HRW concerned over illegal detention of Tibetans
Human Rights Watch (HRW) on Sunday said it is concerned over what it called illegal detention of Tibetan exiles in Nepal, adding that they are entitled to peaceful expression and assembly too.
The New York based human rights watchdog also accused Nepal Police of using unnecessary and excessive force during arrests. It said that police arrested more than 2,500 Tibetans over the past five weeks, and more than 850 in the days following the election for protesting against China.
In its second press statement in the past few weeks, HRW said it has witnessed "ill-treatment of many Tibetans in detention, including beatings and repeated denial of access to medial care."
