Govt to ban exports of cereals
Amidst the reports of food crisis globally, Nepal government is planning to put restriction on exports of daily food items including rice.
According to Nepal Samacharpatra daily, a meeting held at the Ministry of Industries, Commerce and Supplies on Sunday decided to put ban on exports of the cereals with immediate effect. The restriction is likely to be imposed on goods like paddy, rice, wheat, maize and flour made out of them.
The decision was taken in lieu of the possible rise in the food prices since global food productions have declined over the last few years.
The custom points at the international border will be given orders to check the exports.
Most governments in Asia and Europe have already shut the exports of the food items excluding Thailand where the government has asked the citizens to eat less to increase the surplus cereals.
The private entrepreneurs had already warned the government of possible shut down of their flour industries if the government fails to put ban on exports. nepalnews.com ia Apr 21 08
