Defeated candidates move SC calling for re-polling in Mahottari-6

Some 15 election candidates from various parties and a few independents, who lost election in Mahottari constituency-6, have on Monday moved the Supreme Court, alleging the Election Officer of involving in irregularities in vote counting and illegally declaring the results.

In a complaint signed by candidates of parties like Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist, RPP, Terai Madhesh Loktantrik Party (TMLP) and few other parties as well as independent candidates, it has been accused that the results of the election were "fraudulent and biased".

They also demanded that the vote counting was done in an illegal manner and reelection should be conducted in the constituency by making the results null and void re-election.

Madheshi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) candidate Sharad Singh Bhandari had emerged victorious in the Mahottari-6, beating his closest rival Sitaram Bhandari of NC by just 21 votes. While the MJF candidate had secured 6863 votes, the NC candidate had got 6842 votes. nepalnews.com ag Apr 21 08
