Temporary health workers announce protest
Temporary health workers across the country have announced indefinite strike starting Sunday with three-point demands.
Organising a press conference at the Reporters Club Nepal Saturday, the health workers who have been working on contract basis for years, said they were forced to go on strike as the government failed to pay heed to their demands.
The demands of the temporary health workers include permanent job status after completing the procedures required by Public Service Commission and appointment of at least one health worker in each government school to teach health subject.
As per their protest programme, temporary health workers will organise a sit-in programme in front of the Ministry of Health and Population on Sunday and picketing of the ministry and Chakka Jam (traffic halt) around Singha Durbar area the next day.
Chairman of the Temporary Health Workers Struggle Committee, Jeevan B.C, said stringent protest programmes would be announced if the government failed to respond to the demands.
The temporary health workers' strike comes at a time when the government has come up with an ambition plan to provide free health services from health posts across the country. nepalnews.com mk Apr 26 08
