NSU activists call for national convention
Some 54 members of the Nepal Students Union (NSU)'s working committee have demanded that a national convention be called within the next three months.
Vice-president of NSU chapters in all five-development regions, general secretaries Pratima Gautam and Jitjung Basnet, assistant general secretaries, treasurer Rajiv Dhungana including party members are among the ones who made such a demand.
Saying that the two factions of NSU is yet to follow in the footsteps of their parent party Nepali Congress which forged party unity with its splinter Nepali Congress (Democratic) and that they still work as separate entities in most of the colleges, they have submitted a written demand to the president Sunday.
They have said in the letter that two separate working committees of the student organization exist in the district and campuses.
"Our serious attention has been drawn to news reports that important decision were taken by an informal meeting of NSU instead of its full meeting. Only a national convention can provide a way out of this problem. Therefore, we demand that the full meeting of the central committee be held within a week and it set the time, date and venue for the national convention within three months time," the members have stated. nepalnews.com ag Apr 28 08
