Foreign couple drowns in Sundarijal

An American girl and her Tibetan boyfriend died after drowning in Sundarijal reservoir in Kathmandu on Thursday.

Reports had Sundarijal Police Range identifying the deceased as Cyaneer Farande, 19, and Kesang Rajyal, 28.

Farande's body was pulled out after two and half hours while her boyfriend Rajyal was found after 12 hours in a semi-naked condition.

Reports said Farande was a student at Tibetan Education Foundation located at Bouddha while Rajyal was a resident of Tusal in the capital. According to police, Rajyal and Farande, accompanied by two other friends, had reached Sundarijal from Baudhha at 2 pm Thursday for an outing.

Police said the group had consumed local liquor at the nearby restaurant before taking a plunge in the 17 ft deep reservoir which is used to distribute drinking water to the residents of Kathmandu. The body of Rajyal has been handed over to his elder brother Thile Gyalchowk and that of Farande to her instructor at the foundation.
