Terai bandh enters third day; locals in Rupandehi resist bandh
The third day of an indefinite bandh (shutdown strike) called by the United Madhesi Democratic Front saw partial effect in the Terai region with bazaars starting to open and vehicles plying on highways.
People rallying against the strike helped shopkeepers open the market places in various districts including Butwal, Nawalparasi, Nepalgunj, Itahari, Dhankuta and Baridya.
Thousands of local residents took out rally in Bhairahawa this morning. The business community also expressed solidarity to the resistance shown by the local people. In Dhankuta, entrepreneurs said they would not obey the bandh call of different ethnic groups.
Koshi Highway that remained deserted due to bandh called by Limbuwan National Council – Lingden faction has partially opened.
