One killed in police action in Nepalgunj; curfew imposed
One person was killed after the riot police opened fire at a crowd of protesters for defying the curfew orders in Nepalgunj Sunday afternoon.
Gulzar Khan of Nepalgunj Municipality-16, who was shot at by the police, died while undergoing treatment at Bheri Zonal Hospital, reports said.
Police baton-charged and used teargas shells to disperse the protesters and then fired live rounds after they could not control the crowd. 13 protesters and five policemen were injured in the ensuing violence.
Cadres of the United Madhesi Democratic Front (UMDF) that has enforced an indefinite general strike in Terai region carried out angry protests in different parts of Nepalgunj from early morning.
The District Administration Office of Banke has imposed curfew in Nepalgunj and surrounding areas from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm to check further violence during the protests. nepalnews.com mk Feb 17 08
