UML not to forge electoral alliance in Kathmandu
The Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) has said it will not forge alliance with any party, at least in Kathmandu, during the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) election.
This decision by the UML has come at a time when there were reports of possible UML-Maoist electoral alliance to ensure maximum victory for communist parties.
According to Iswor Pokharel, in charge of UML’s valley coordination committee, its surveys have shown that UML will win in all of the ten constituencies in the capital district. So, there is no question of forging alliance with any party, he said at a press meet, Monday.
Last week, general secretary of UML Madhav Nepal had also stated that there was no possibility of nationwide electoral alliance with the Maoists. “Perhaps in local level, there could be some alliances but not at national level,” he said.
The UML is expected to field Pradeep Nepal, Iswor Pokharel, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Rameshwore Phuyal, Astalaxmi Shakya, among others, from the capital constituencies. nepalnews.com sd Feb 19 08
