Govt to ask EC to extend closed list submission deadline
The government has decided to ask the Election Commission to extend the deadline for submission of closed list of the candidates for proportional representative system by four days.
The meeting of the interim cabinet held this morning took this decision to make further efforts to bring the agitating parties in Terai and eastern region to constituent assembly election process by withdrawing their bandh continuing since nine days.
The government talks team and the agitating groups are to continue their talks on Thursday as well regarding the six-point demands forwarded by the United Democratic Madhesi Front.
Only 37 out of 74 political parties registered at the commission have filed their closed list by Wednesday evening, the date given by the commission.
Most of the parties of Madhes origin have not submitted their list including the Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandi Devi) which announced defection from the ruling alliance recently. nepalnews.com ia Feb 21 08
