EC extends closed list deadline at govt’s request

Following the government’s request, the Election Commission (EC) on Thursday extended the deadline for submitting the closed list of candidates for proportional voting system.

The EC has fixed February 24 as the new deadline for political parties that have been registered with it. The commission said the parties that missed yesterday’s deadline could submit their closed lists from 10 am to 5 pm on February 24.

The deadline has been extended considering the onus to conduct the constituent assembly election that is an integral part of the peace process, as well as the current political situation.

The cabinet held at Baluwatar this morning had decided to ask the EC to extend the deadline as efforts were still on to bring the agitating Madhesi parties in the election process.
