Gachhadar, Bhandari not to contest election
Two central leaders of Nepali Congress (NC) representing Terai districts have decided not to take part in the April election.
Bijaya Gachhadar and Sharat Singh Bhandari have informed, Sunday, that they will not contest the election because the burning problem in Madhes has not been addressed by the government.
"We cannot contest election when Madhes is burning," said Bhandari.
"Our decision to surrender the ticket for election is also aimed at exerting moral pressure on NC to become serious about Madhes issue," said Bhandari.
"NC has been representing Terai/Madhes for a long time. It had swept two-third seats from the region in past elections. So, NC is the party that should be seriously addressing the issue," he further said.
Bhandari and Gachhadar have announced that they will, however, not leave the party.
The NC had nominated Bhandari and Gachhadar to contest CA election from Mahottari and Sunsari constituencies. nepalnews.com sd Feb 25 08
