Strike grips Terai on 14th consecutive day; one killed in Nawalparasi
The indefinite bandh called by the United Democratic Madhesi Front
(UDMF) has continued to affect several districts in eastern Terai
region for the fourteenth consecutive day on Tuesday.
One person called Jagadish Pashi was killed after police opened fire
to disperse the mob that attacked the Maheshpur police post after they
attacked the residence of former minister Devendra Raj Kandel in
Maheshpur of Nawalparasi district.
A group of protesters also attacked the residence of Nepali Congress
general secretary Bimalendra Nidhi located in Mills Area of Janakpur.
Situation remained tense in parts of Bara, Parsa, Nawalparasi,
Kapilbastu and Saptari districts. Local administration has clamped
curfew in parts of these districts.
Curfew was also clamped in the region between Birgunj and Pathlaiya
road by the administration to facilitate the passage of essential
goods to the capital valley and elsewhere in the country.
The district headquarters of Saptari, Rajbiraj was also under curfew
the whole day with tensions rising a day after one person was killed
