Govt claims it is close to understanding with FRNF
The government talks team coordinator and Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Ram Chandra Poudel has said that the understanding with Federal Republican National Front (FRNF) is within striking distance.
“There is almost an understanding with the FRNF. It will be concluded on Thursday,” Poudel told Kantipur.
The talks between the government and FRNF – which is spearheading agitation and indefinite bandh in eastern districts since last two weeks – had started from Sunday but had ended inconclusively on Monday.
However, on Wednesday, the talks gained momentum, claims Poudel.
The FRNF includes half a dozen regional and ethnic based parties including the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF-Gupta faction).
According to Kishore Bishwas, vice president of MJF-Gupta, the government has agreed to their three demands including establishment of meaningful republic, and federal autonomy based on language and region.
“Our main demand is full proportional representation based election. But we still want that effective election is held on April 10. There will be give and take in dialogue,” Bishwas added. nepalnews.com sd Feb 28 08
