Govt presents bill to amend CA Election Act in parliament; MPs raise border encroachment issue

The government has presented the bill to amend the Constituent Assembly Election Act in the parliament on Thursday.

Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula presented the bill before the House for discussion on Thursday. The House sent the bill to concerned parliamentary committee for in-depth discussion before approving it.

The government's initiation comes after the Election Commission demanded announcement of the polls date at the earliest and finalisation of all legal provisions by mid-January if the elections are to be held by mid-April.

The EC said it needed at least 90 days time to hold the polls.

The government aims at finalising amendments of all legal instruments within a week, as per the agreement reached among the seven parties recently.

Similarly, the House is expected to endorse the Nepal Trust Bill today that opens the door for nationalisation of the properties owned by late king Birendra and his family.

Speaking during today's session, lawmaker raised objection to continued encroachment of Nepali land by India. Some even said the encroachment has been intensified by deploying the cadres of Indian Hindu outfits after the seven parties agreed to mention 'democratic republic' in interim constitution. Lawmakers also demanded government’s initiation to stop the border encroachment. nepalnews.com ia Jan 03 08
