SPA steering committee meet fixes date for joint mass meetings in seven cities
The first formal meeting of the steering committee of the Seven Party Alliance chaired by UML decided, Friday, to hold joint mass meetings in seven cities.
Even as the date for the Constituent Assembly election has not yet been set, the meeting decided to kick off joint mass meetings as promotional campaigning for the election.
As per the decision, on January 14, Nepali Congress will coordinate the mass meeting in Kathmandu followed by the UML who will coordinate the meeting in Biratnagar on January 19.
The Nepal Sadbhavana Party will coordinate the meeting in Bhairahawa, the Jana Morcha will do so in Janakpur and the Maoists will set up the joint public meeting in Dhangadhi. The United Leftist Front will coordinate the meeting in Birgunj.
The joint mass meetings have been planned as a gesture to show that they are united in holding the election.
The meeting of the steering committee, which was repeatedly postponed on various excuses, finally decided to begin the work for drafting the code of conduct, working procures and authority of the committee.
The second meeting of the committee will now be convened by the Maoists. On Friday's meeting, NC was represented by acting president Sushil Koirala. nepalnews.com sd/ia Jan 04 07
