RPP and RJP begin efforts to unite
The two parties outside the ruling seven party alliance, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Rastriya Janashakti Party (RJP), have started efforts to unite.
Both the parties have formed task forces to initiate dialogue for setting the terms and conditions for the unity.
The RPP’s task force is led by Jog Meher Shrestha and includes Thakur Sharma, Khemraj Pandit, Deepak Bohara and Parshuram Khapung as members.
Likewise, the RJP’s task force is led by Hari Bahadur Basnet and includes Keshar Bahadur Bista, Indra Prasad Dhungel, Ram Krishna Bhattarai and Janardan Acharya as members.
The RJP had been formed three years ago after the RPP split. The RJP is headed by former Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa and RPP is headed by Pashupati SJB Rana. Although both parties include leaders of erstwhile Panchayat regime, in recent times both have decided to become monarchy-neutral. They have said they will accept the people’s verdict on the fate of monarchy.
RPP leader Khemraj Pandit has said that their unity is a message against the ‘increasingly autocratic seven party alliance.’
The third splinter of the RPP known as RPP-Nepal and headed by Rabindranath Sharma, however, is launching an agitation from Monday to protest the seven parties’ decision to declare republic ahead of election.
The RPP-Nepal is kicking off its agitation from Sundhara in the capital on Monday noon. nepalnews.com sd Jan 07 08
