UN Asst Secretary-General Kane arrives

Angela Kane, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs

Angela Kane, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, arrived in Kathmandu for a four-day visit on Monday.

A statement issued by the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) said the main purpose of Kane’s visit is to apprise herself of the work of UNMIN in support of the peace process and the preparations for the constituent assembly election.

In addition to working meetings with UNMIN, the Assistant Secretary-General will participate in meetings with government officials, political leaders and others. She will also travel to the eastern region, where she will meet with the UNMIN team based in Biratnagar and visit the Maoist cantonment site in Ilam.

Kane, a German national, has been a staff member of the United Nations since 1977, and was appointed Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs in 2005. nepalnews.com mk Jan 07 08
