Thakur’s party not to boycott polls
Chairman of Terai Madhesh Loktantrik Party (TMLP), Mahantha Thakur, has said that his party will not boycott the forthcoming election to the constituent assembly.
Speaking at a press conference organised in Birgunj Monday, Thakur said if the government guaranteed that polls would be held in a fearless atmosphere then the TMLP would readily join the election fray.
“We will take this (election) also as a movement, but the government does not seem to be intending to hold the elections”, he said.
Stating that Madhesi people had to wage a struggle as the state always treated Madhesh as a colony, Thakur said, adding that the movement for rights, identity and dignity of the Madhesi people would continue peacefully.
Thakur had formed the TMLP by involving few other Madhesi leaders from different parties after resigning from the cabinet and the interim parliament few weeks earlier. nepalnews.com mk Jan 08 08
