Hundreds of women rights activities joined in a demonstration called by the Women Security Pressure Group in the capital Tuesday afternoon, demanding 33 percent representation in the decision-making bodies of the state.
Carrying banners and placards emblazoned with slogans for better say of women in the state mechanism, the women began their rally from Naya Baneshwor, which converged into a mass meeting at Maitighar.
They complained that the commitment proposal passed by the parliament guaranteeing at least 33 percent representation of women in all sectors of the state had not been implemented.
Addressing the mass meeting, foreign minister Sahana Pradhan said unity of women representing different political parties and groups was necessary to make their voice heard.
She was of the belief that the movement of women rights in Nepal had grown stronger than in any other South Asian nation. nepalnew.com mk Jan 08 08
