Cabinet likely to decide election date on Friday; new ministers to be sworn in
The cabinet meeting on Friday is likely to fix the new date for Constituent Assembly (CA) election.
On Thursday, Home Minister and government spokesperson Krishna Prasad Sitaula said that Friday’s cabinet could fix the date.
“Possibly, we will take the decision (on election date) tomorrow,” he told reporters on Thursday.
Earlier, addressing a programme organised by private school operators in Kathmandu, Speaker Subas Nemwang had also said that the date will be fixed by Friday.
“By tomorrow, we will get a new election date. Prime Minister has assured me that the date will be fixed by tomorrow,” Nemwang had said.
Since the seven parties, in their 23-point agreement, had agreed to hold election by mid-April 2008, the government needs to fix the election date within four-five days if it wants to fulfill the request by Election Commission to provide 90-day window period for preparation of the polls.
Meanwhile, newly appointed ministers are going to be sworn in by the Prime Minister in Singhdurbar in the afternoon. nepalnews.com sd Jan 11 08
