Dacoits loot passenger bus in eastern Nepal, injure one
Armed gunmen looted a passenger bus at Chandranigahpur VDC section of the East-West National Highway in Rautahat district in eastern Nepal Monday night. They also injured a passenger while fleeing with their loot.
According to Area Police Office, Chandranigahpur, the dacoits managed to gain entry into the passenger bus heading from Kathmandu to Biratnagar by obstructing the road and held the terrorised passengers at gun-point before robbing them off their belongings. Initial estimate have it that the dacoits made off with Rs 1,50,000 cash and other belongings.
One Nawaraj Adhikari, 32, a resident of Udaypur district, sustained bullet injuries while trying to resist the armed looters single-handedly. Reports said that the police team that reached the site shortly after the incident rushed him to the hospital where his condition is said to be stable.
Police Inspector Naresh Raj Subedi said they have intensified search operation to nab the dacoits.
Incidents like these have been on the rise despite the government deploying Special Task Force (STF) comprising personnel from Nepal Police and Armed Police Force in Rautahat district including seven other eastern Terai districts to control the deteriorating security situation there. nepalnews.com ag Jan 15 07
