Nepali carpet exporters participate international fair

Nepali carpet entrepreneurs including few government officials have participated in one of the largest carpet fairs of the world, DOMOTEX in Hannover, Germany held from January 12 to 15.

A business interaction and 'Nepal Evening' were organised by the Nepal delegation at Messe Berlin Hall attended by prominent international buyers of Nepali carpets.

Speaking on the occasion, Nepali Ambassador to Germany Dr. Madan K. Bhattarai assured of full cooperation to international carpet importers from Nepal's legation to Germany.

Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies Tej Raj Shakya informed about the Nepal government's readiness to re-energise public private participation in carpet sector and seriousness on the part of the government to help the private sector of Nepal to boost export trade.

The largest importer of Nepali carpet Manfred Barfuss of Ludwig Wassenbach (Germany) complained of unfriendly behaviour of airport staff at Tribhuwan International Airport and requested to articulate the entry formalities.

He appreciated the quality and designs pertained in the Nepali carpets and urged the produced to keep this intact.

President of NCEA K. N. Thakur said a holistic approach is needed both from the government and private sector to combat the decreasing trend seen in export of Nepali carpets.

Barfuss was awarded for importing highest quantity of Nepali carpets. Similarly, Andrews Dams of Kibbeck Teppich (Germany), Martin Greabner of Talis GMBH (Germany ), Mohammad Selvi of Selvi Hali Company (Turkey) and Representatives of Tufinkeen (USA) and The Rugs Corporation (UK) were also awarded as big importers of the Nepali carpets. nepalnews.com ia Jan 19 08
