Taskforce discusses local bodies revival

A taskforce formed by the meeting of top leaders of the seven-party alliance to work out reviving the local bodies has proposed a new modality on Monday.

According to the proposal presented by Local Development Minister Dev Gurung, the local bodies will be run though a joint mechanism of the SPA with proper representation of Dalits, women and janajatis and other smaller parties in the parliament.

Gurung, the coordinator of taskforce, put forth the proposal during a meeting held on Monday.

All parties having representation in the interim parliament will have at least one representative in all the village development committees, municipalities and district development committees.

Leadership in the local bodies will be on consensus of the SPA and if that cannot materialise, it would be chosen on rotation basis with fixed tenure.
