Students have staged angry demonstrations in the capital Kathmandu and other major towns against the petroleum price hike on Tuesday.

Students started protest rallies from early morning in the capital, burning tyres on the road and chanting slogans against the government’s decision to increase POL prices.

There were major demonstrations at Kalanki, Thamel, Pradarshani Marga, Gaushala, Gongabu, Ratnapark, Banasthali, Bagbazaar, Chabahil and Naya Baneshwor.

The demonstrations have brought the traffic to a complete halt. The students even did not allow the bikers while officer-goers were forced to walk on foot.

Rallies have been organised in other districts as well to protests the price hike. Reports from Palpa, Hetauda and Biratnagar say students and locals organised demonstrations against the price hike.

In the meantime, the transport entrepreneurs have begun an emergency meeting in Katmandu to discuss possible increase in pubic transport fares. nepalnews.com ia Jan 22 08
