Seven-party taskforce still undecided over formation of local bodies
The seven-party taskforce formed to decide on political appointments in the local bodies remains still undecided over the issue with some parties refusing to budge on their stances.
A meeting of the taskforce held on Friday ended in sharp disagreement after the CPN-UML and the Maoists proposed different approaches.
It is learnt that the Maoists want all-party mechanism that would also involve political parties not represented in the parliament to run the local bodies whereas the UML has demanded that the old setup (that of 2054 B.S) be revived first of all and the seats divided to the parties according to their position in the parliament.
In today’s meeting held at the Maoist central office, Buddhanagar, the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party supported the UML’s position while the Nepali Congress didn't speak clearly on the issue.
A meeting of the seven-party Steering Committee on January 15 had formed the taskforce headed by local development minister Dev Gurung. nepalnews.com mk Jan 25 08
