Japan extends food aid worth Rs 234 million to Nepal
The Government of Japan has agreed to extend a grant assistance of Rs 234400000 to supply food to districts hit hard by food shortage.
An agreement to this effect was signed between Japanese ambassador Tatsuo Mizuno and Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Vidyadhar Mallik in Kathmandu on Monday on behalf of the respective governments.
A statement issued by the Japanese Embassy said the assistance has been provided with the objective of enabling the Nepal government to procure rice and supply it to the needy population living in the food-deficit districts.
The food would be delivered by the Nepal Food Corporation (NFC) through its national distribution network
Speaking after the signing of the agreement, ambassador Mizuno expressed his belief that the food aid would assist the effort by the Nepal government to ease the difficulties faced by the people in the food-deficit areas. nepalnews.com mk Jan 28 08
