School time to be changed to ease traffic congestion
Officials have decided to change the time of school hours in order to ease traffic congestion during peak office hours.
At a meeting among traffic police officials, Education Ministry and school organisations, on Monday, it was decided that from coming academic session, the school hours will be slightly brought forward – and will start from 9 am till 3:30 pm.
“Schools will change the hours at the request of traffic police and the Ministry,” said Laba Prasad Tripathi, spokesperson of the Ministry.
According to chief of the Metropolitan Traffic Police Office, SSP Bhisma Prasai, traffic congestion had worsened since around 3000 school buses also operate in the valley roads during office hours, which currently coincides with school hours.
PR Dhakal, general secretary of Private and Boarding School Organisation of Nepal (PABSON), said that there is possibility of changing the school hours. “But we need to seek the permission of parents first,” he said. nepalnews.com sd Jan 29 08
