Experts decry ‘low’ investment in education

Experts and officials have expressed concern about what they called as ‘low’ investment in education.

They have blamed the low level of investment for the lack of access to higher education, reports Nepal Samacharpatra daily.

According to Arjun Bhandari, a joint secretary at the Ministry of Education and Sports, around 20,000 students leave for foreign countries due to lack of access to higher education and owing to chaotic situation in the country.

Likewise, Dr. Upendra Kumar Koirala, vice president of Higher Secondary Education Council, believes that students have left for foreign countries because the state did not invest properly in the sector.

“The state must change its education policy,” he said, speaking at an interaction programme in the capital on Wednesday.

“The education sector has been thoroughly disrupted,” charged Umesh Shrestha, former president of Private and Boarding Schools Organisation of Nepal (PABSON). nepalnews.com sd Jul 03 08
