Doctors end hospital strike

The Nepal Medical Association has decided to end the three-day-old strike in hospitals, Friday evening, after the government assured of fulfilling their demands.

Following the meeting with Health Minister Giriraj Mani Pokharel, the NMA decided to end the strike as the government committed to fulfill their demands through a written seven point understanding, said NMA president Dr. Chop Lal Bhusal.

As per the understanding, the government has committed to quickly introduce Health Service Security Act to ensure security of health professionals and institutions.

The NMA had announced strike in private, government and teaching hospitals except their emergency services since Tuesday. They resorted to strike after relatives of a patient who died during treatment vandalised Everest Nursing Home and threatened the doctor concerned.

The strike had seriously affected tens of thousands of patients across the country. nepalnews.com sd Jul 11 08
