Parties campaigning for presidential election
Major political parties are preparing to heat up the campaigning in favour of their respective presidential candidates, on Friday.
As the three major parties – Nepali Congress (NC), Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) and Maoists – have fielded separate candidates due to their failure to field consensus candidate, they are preparing to hold talks with parties represented at the Constituent Assembly (CA).
The NC and UML leaders are preparing to sit together to forge their strategies in the face of the decision of the Maoists to reject either of them for the position of president.
The two parties are also preparing to hold talks with other parties except the Maoists.
According to the election schedule, the parties can campaign in favour of their candidates on Friday while the election will take place on Saturday.
The NC, UML and Maoists have fielded Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, Ramprit Paswan and Ramraja Prasad Singh as candidates for president, respectively. Likewise, they have fielded Man Bahadur Biswakarma, Astalaxmi Shakya and Shanta Shrestha as candidates for vice president, respectively. The Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) has fielded Parmananda Jha for the position of vice president. nepalnews.com sd Jul 18 08
