Talking to the media before heading home after a three day visit, Uno said that he was surprised by the latest political developments in Nepal that have cast doubt over the formation of a unity government.

The vice minister also said that Japan will continue its support to the new government. He also stated that if power is seized by force, Japan will have to reconsider its aid.

He however clarified that his concern was not directed at the Maoists and expressed his confidence that such a situation will not arise in Nepal.

Uno opined that as the peace process in Nepal has not come to a conclusion, it would be better to extend the term of the United Nation's Mission in Nepal (UNMIN). There are six Japanese Personnel working for the UNMIN.

Earlier, the vice minister had made courtesy calls to the Prime Minister, Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum president Upendra Yadav and other high ranking officials at the Foreign Ministry. nepalnews.com arj July 18 08
