MJF puts forth condition for supporting Singh
A key Madhesi party has put forth condition for lending its support to the presidential candidate Ram Raja Prasad Singh, who is backed by the Maoists.
After holding meeting with Maoist leaders, coordinator of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) Upendra Yadav told reporters that his party will support Singh's candidature only if the Maoists withdraw their vice presidential candidate Shanta Shrestha in favour of MJF candidate Parmananda Jha.
During the parliamentary party meeting of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) Friday afternoon, MJF leaders accused Maoist of not complying with agreement reached earlier.
MJF has fielded former judge Pamananda Jha for the post of vice president. The party has put condition on Maoist leaders that their votes for Singh will be confirmed only when they get assurance for votes in favour of Jha.
However, as the Maoists have not yet fulfilled their conditions, the MJF leaders have intensified talks with UML and Nepali Congress. nepalnews.com sd/ia July 18 08
