New alliance not meant to form govt, says NC leader
A senior leader of Nepali Congress (NC) has said the newly
formed alliance of the NC, CPN (UML) and Madhesi
Janadhikar Forum (MJF) is not meant to form a new
government, and that there hasn't been any discussion
within the alliance on the issue.

Speaking at an interaction in the capital on Sunday, NC
joint general secretary Arjun Narsingh K.C. said the three
parties were compelled to join forces as the Maoists tried
to use them to grab power. He said the three parties would
try to bring more parties on board to make the alliance
stronger.
K.C., who is also the spokesperson of the Congress party,
said the alliance would also try to look for ways to reach
consensus even with the Maoists.
Speaking at the same programme, UML standing committee
member Ishwor Pokharel claimed that the past
understandings reached by the now-defunct seven-party
alliance (SPA) would not be broken.
He also said the UML would not join the next government if
it's not formed through "national consensus". nepalnews.com mk July 20 08
