Brothers in arms to perform at July paleti
Badri Kharel and Durga Kharel, both noted composer/singer from Indian hills of Darjeelling will be performing at Nepa~laya's Paleti series on July 25.
The two brothers began their music schools from home because their parents Indra Lal Kharel and Bishnu Maya Kharel were popular singers of folk songs, hymns and Sangini. Noticing Badri, Durga's keen interest in music, their parents enrolled them in Gopal Yonjan's Kala Mandir.
They learnt classical music from Utpal Basu. Badri looks after the rhythm and Durga takes care of melody. They are known for their popular numbers Bolaun Bhane Timi Lai Baat Lagne Darr, Banki Pareki Maya Banki Pareki, Aye Dhaka Topima Hera.
It was the community practice that no religious functions in Darjeeling would be complete without their participation.
Badri is with the govt. service in Darjeeling and Durga is a lawyer by profession. They stay together, have married siblings. The beauty of brotherhood reflects in their composition and singing as well. They will be spreading the message of the same brotherhood in July Paleti. ]
Although they have visited Nepal couple of times as part of the musical troupe, this will be their first ever solo concert.
"We are very excited and take it as our acid test. We know that we have to live up to the expectation and prepared ourselves for it ", they said. nepalnews.com ia July 22 08
