Caritas Lebanon to support Nepali migrants
Caritas Lebanon Migrant Center has taken initiatives to support Nepalis who have reached Lebanon in search of jobs but are facing problems in the new society.
According to Deependra Upreti, representative of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRN) Lebanon National Coordination Committee, the agency will render services like psychological and social support, safe house, legal advice, interpreters, basic health care, safe return home, information regarding rights as a victim and support on rights of residence.
The services have been offered with the increasing number of Nepalis entering the country but facing more problems. Upreti, who also works as staff at Office of Nepal's Consular at Beirut, said the number of Nepali workers in Lebanon has soared over the last few years.
The number has reached at least up to 15,000 and most of them work as domestic helpers. The trend to work without the government notice is on the rise since this will help them save more earnings and evade taxes, thus posing more security threats to Nepali workers.
The rise in the number of Nepali workers is because of the increasing demand for domestic helpers after India, Bangladesh, and other Asian countries put ban on travel after the internal war in Lebanon. nepalnews.com ia July 23 08
