Students withdraw transport strike

The student organisations have withdrawn their indefinite transport strike.

They made the decision after the government agreed to effectively monitor the implementation of discount in fares for students.

The understanding was reached at a meeting between student representatives and Minister for Labour and Transport Management Ramesh Lekhak on Thursday evening.

Pradeep Poudel, president of NC-affiliated Nepal Students Union (NSU), claimed that the government has also agreed to make a scientific review of transport fare within a month.

"We have withdrawn our strike. The government must immediately implement the agreement," said Poudel.

Eight student organisations affiliated with various political parties had resorted to indefinite transport strike from Wednesday demanding that the 45 percent discount allocated for students in transport fare must be effectively implemented. nepalnews.com sd Jul 25 08
