Construction on Bio-trail begins in Mechi
Construction works have started on a bio-trail linking higher reaches of hilly and mountainous districts of Mechi Zone and passing through Darjeeling and Sikkim of India up to Bhutan, an RSS report says.
The road starts from the Nepal-India border.
According to the report, locals in Mangalbare of Mechi district looked excited following the start of the construction of the bio-trail with the direct participation of the local people and through the cooperation of different national and international stakeholders and social organizations.
The objective of constructing the bio-trail is to conserve the rare flora and fauna found in the region and to promote village tourism.
The road is to be constructed as per a separate ten-year master plan linking 13 Village Development Committees along the Nepal-India border in Taplejung, Panchthar and Ilam districts, the report said. The road will originate from Kanchanjunga mountain region. It will occupy an area of 4,305.60 square kilometers in Nepal, India and Bhutan.
It is expected that the construction of the bio-trail will help in alleviating the poverty of the people living in the region and more than 200,000 locals in east Nepal will be directly benefited. nepalnews.com June 02 08
