Indigenous film festival begins in Kathmandu

The International Indigenous Film Festival (IIFF) has kicked off in the capital city today showcasing a broad range of films, documentaries and animated movies from Nepal and beyond.

Encouraged by last year's success, the Indigenous Film Archive (IFA) is organizing the film festival from June 6-9.

During the four-day event altogether 21 films and documentaries from 11 different ethnic communities in Nepal including Newar, Limbu, and Gurung and 27 films and documentaries from 10 different countries in Europe, Americas, Africa, Australia and Asia would be showcased, according to the organizers.

The films to be screened during the festival can be categorized into feature films, documentary films, short films, experimental films, animation and deals with broad range of topics like life style, culture, climate change, and religion.

The organizers hope that the films on offer will give viewers a taste of diverse culture and tradition and bring forth issues of indigenous people that have remained sidelined till now. nepalnews.com ag June 06 08
