Chinese ambassador speaks out on Tibetans' protest yet again

While Tibetan refugees in Kathmandu are staging "Free Tibet" demonstrations and protests in front of Chinese Embassy almost daily, Chinese Ambassador Zian Xenglin said at a programme on Monday that the Tibetan movement is nothing but a "conspiracy to secede Tibet from China".

Ambassador Xenglin said despite being a religious figure, Dalai Lama is venturing into political arena and that secessionist activities are going on in Tibet Autonomous Region of China under his leadership, a claim Dalai Lama has been denying.

Speaking at a launching of a book on Tibet organised by Bhaktapur Journalist Society, the Chinese Ambassador said that 95 percent of Tibetans are "liberated" and don't approve of Dalai Lama who, he accused, is only trying to sabotage Tibetan freedom.

Echoing the same views, Nepal Workers and Peasant Party (NWPP) chairman Narayanman Bijukchhe said that the Tibetans' protest [in Kathmandu] is not a "movement for Tibetan freedom" as it is being carried out by what he called "imported people", adding that various historical documents show that Tibet has been an integral part of China since ancient times.

Although a small leftist party indigenous of Bhaktapur, NWPP enjoys a good rapport with the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu. nepalnews.com ag June 16 08
