Mini theater in Kathmandu Durbar Square

With the aim of attracting tourists and promoting Nepali culture and history, authorities have mooted the idea of setting up mini theater in Hanumandhoka durbar region.

Hanumandhoka Durbar Conservation and Promotion Committee has decided to set up a mini theater to show documentaries on historic art/culture, festivals and shrines/temples.

“After setting up the theater, tourists will get an opportunity every evening to learn about different aspects of Nepali culture. They will get both information and entertainment through documentaries on Indra Jatra, Machhindra Jatra, Gai Jatra, Dashain, and Tihar festivals and so on,” Nabindra Raj Joshi, Constituent Assembly (CA) member and chief of the committee told Kantipur.

The committee has also made a number of decisions to intensify cleanliness campaign in and around Kathmandu Durbar Square, which is listed as World Heritage Site.

“Although it is a palace of former King, we want to conserve it because it is also a symbol of our culture. We want to promote both our culture and tourism,” Joshi said. nepalnews.com sd Jun 18 08
