Khanal blames Maoists for smearing communist image
A day after his party reached an agreement on power sharing with Maoists, UML general secretary Jhal Nath Khanal blamed Maoists for giving a bad name to communism in Nepal.
Claiming that his party still earns wide respect in the country, Khanal said parties cannot become bigger just by bagging more votes but on the basis of principles, philosophy and respect towards humanity.
At a function organised in the capital Saturday, Khanal repeated his accusation against the Maoist youth wing Young Communist League (YCL) of torturing people and engaging in looting and abduction.
Stating that youths have been used for unsocial activities, Khanal vowed to make his party's newly established Youth Force a loyal group geared towards social activities.
On the occasion, Khanal welcomed over a dozen youths from Koteshwore, who previously worked in YCL, into the Youth Force and expressed hope that they would work for the welfare of the Nepali people. nepalnews.com ia June 21 08
