Students vow to carry on agitation demanding relief
The meeting of seven student organisations affiliated with various political parties decided, Sunday, to carry on their agitation demanding relief for students.
The students who are already holding protests demanding 50 percent discount in travel fares, have now demanded 50 percent discount in all health institutions and in daily consumer goods.
The meeting held at the central office of Nepali Congress-affiliated Nepal Students Union (NSU) decided to hand over memo demanding these relief measures to the Minister for Labour and Transport Management; Minister for Health and Population; and Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, according to Ram Prasad Adhikari, a central member of NSU.
The students have also announced holding sit-in in front of colleges across the country on Monday in the morning time between 10 and 10:30. On Tuesday, they would hold countrywide joint rallies.
On Sunday, too, the students had held protest demonstrations in front of some colleges in the capital demanding travel fare concessions. They are not satisfied with the government's decision to permit 43 percent discount for students.
The government, on the other hand, has called the students for talks to resolve the situation. nepalnews.com sd Jun 22 08
