CA stalemate continues
The stalemate in the Constituent Assembly (CA) seemed unlikely to end soon
with CA members from Terai-based parties obstructing the Assembly's proceedings Sunday as well.
The CA's legislative meeting, which started at 5:15 pm, over three hours
behind schedule, had to be cancelled after the Madhesi CA members came to
the rostrum and started chanting slogans, demanding constitutional
guarantee of 'autonomous Madheh province' and 'group entry' of Madhesis
into the army.
K.B Gurung who chaired the meeting requested the Madhesi CA members to
allow normal proceedings of the Assembly, but the latter refused to do so.
Next CA meeting will take place at 4:00 pm Monday.
Throughout the day, the leaders of the three main parties - CPN (Maoist),
Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) - held series of bilateral meetings to
resolve the deadlock, but to no avail.
Earlier today, a meeting of four Terai-based parties - Madhesi Janadhikar
Forum, Terai Madhesh Loktantrik Party, Sadbhawana Party and Dalit Janajati
Party - decided not to allow the CA to take up its normal business unless
their demands are met.
On the other hand, the CPN (Maoist) and UML in a meeting this morning
decided to stand against the 'one Madhesh' demand. nepalnews.com mk June 29 08
