The newly appointed president of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP-Nepal) Kamal Thapa has said that his party would utilise the April CA election to campaign against republic.

A day after he took over the reins of RPP-Nepal chief from Rabindranath Sharma – who is said to have resigned on health grounds – Kamal Thapa said that the issue of monarchy cannot be settled by the first meeting of the elected CA.

He said only referendum is acceptable to settle the issue of monarchy. The third amendment of interim constitution had stipulated that the republic would be implemented through the first meeting of the CA. Thapa said his party rejects the third amendment.

It is said that Sharma had resigned after he stuck to the position that RPP-Nepal should boycott the CA election as participating it would only give legitimacy to the third amendment of the interim constitution.

Meanwhile, Thapa said talks were on to forge electoral alliance with Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Rastriya Janashakti Party (RJP).

Thapa, who was Home Minister during King-led cabinet, said RPP-Nepal still believes in constitutional monarchy for strengthening national unity, integrity, sovereignty and stability. He accused the seven parties of practicing totalitarianism and expressed fears about the situation of insecurity. nepalnews.com sd Mar 04 08
