FM Pradhan holds series of bilateral meetings in Geneva

Minister for Foreign Affairs Sahana Pradhan met with the Head of Department of Foreign Affairs of Swiss Confederation, Micheline Calmy Rey, Monday on the sidelines of the seventh session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

They shared their views on wide ranging areas of mutual interests, including bilateral cooperation, ongoing peace process in Nepal and evolving political process.

As Nepal and Switzerland are celebrating golden jubilee of establishment of diplomatic relations next year, Minister Pradhan highlighted that relations built on solid foundation of mutual trust, friendship and cooperation will be further strengthened in the future as well, a statement by UN mission in Geneva said.

She also expressed appreciation for Switzerland's keen interest in the peace process in Nepal and appraised about the recent political developments that have taken place in the country and preparations towards free, fair and impartial elections to the Constituent Assembly.

Rey stated that Nepal remains a priority country for Swiss Development Cooperation and expressed this to be continued as Nepal embarks upon consolidating democracy, peace and stability which will allow economic prosperity and social development.

Meanwhile, Minister Pradhan also held bilateral meeting with her Norwegian counterpart Jopnas Gahr Store on Monday.

On the occasion, Pradhan called for Norway's support to the peace process in Nepal. The Norwegian minister expressed his country's interest in continuing cooperation to the efforts of Nepali people in building a peaceful, prosperous and democratic Nepal.

Minister Pradhan also met Vice-Prime Minister of Luxembourg Jean Asselborn and Minister for Disaster Management and Human Rights of Sri Lanka Mahinda Samarasinghe. nepalnews.com ia Mar 04 08
