UML chief says efforts are on to bring armed groups to negotiating table
In his maiden election campaign, CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal Thursday said that efforts were on to bring the armed groups operating in Terai at the negotiating table.
“Efforts are on to bring them [armed groups in Terai] to the negotiating table and since they are left with no alternative rather than talks, I hope that they would eventually agree to it,” he said addressing a mass assembly of the party’s senior cadres in Kathmandu’s constituency no. 2.
General Secretary Nepal is the party’s bet in the constituency no. 2 for the upcoming election to Constituent Assembly.
Furthermore, he claimed that CPN-UML would secure a majority in the CA election as the people are “very eager to cast votes for the party to make it a victorious”.
“As the CA election is also an election to draft the main law of the country, UML should secure a majority in it so that a constitution of the people can be drafted,” he told the jubilant crowd.
In a closely veiled remark attributed to its main communist rival CPN-Maoist, he said there are some parties who despite being in the election fray shudder it and that one should accept both victory and defeat in the election in a matured manner.
Nepal also said that the Nepalis people would not accept any kind of extremism, and expressed confidence that they would vote for the party who stands for democratic republicanism. nepalnews.com ag mar 07 08
