The Tibetans were arrested from Bouddha when they were trying to march
towards the Chinese Embassy to submit a memorandum, demanding end to
Chinese rule in Tibet. They displayed banners and placards emblazoned with
slogans like "Free Tibet" and "Tibet Is Not Part of China".
Police baton-charged the demonstrators after they refused to halt their
march. At least five persons including two policemen were injured in the
scuffle.
Over three thousand Tibetans had gathered in Bouddha to mark the 49th
anniversary of the Dalai Lama's escape to India after an unsuccessful
uprising in the Tibetan capital of Lhasa.
Police officials at Boudha police office told Nepalnews that most of the
detainees had been released soon afterwards and that the 16 remaining
detainees would be freed soon.
Nepal recognises Tibet as a part of China and has repeatedly said that no
'anti-China' activities would be allowed in Nepali soil. nepalnews.com
