Twenty Bhutanese refugees flew to the United States Monday afternoon with the start of the first phase of the third country resettlement process.

In the first phase of the resettlement process, four families from Sanischare camp in Morang district have been taken to the US.

Some 60 Bhutanese refugees were flown to Kathmandu from Jhapa few days ago.

The US has pledged to resettle 60,000 refugees while Australia, the Netherlands and other governments have been interviewing Bhutanese refugees since January this year as part of their resettlement plan. These countries have said they would accept at least 70,000 of the 106,000 refugees. nepalnews.com ia Mar 10 08
